Weddings We Have Planned (and are Jealous Of) Part 1: Hannah & Jeff
Hannah & Jeff’s Appleton Micro Wedding
Some weddings just stick with you…the kind that feel like a page out of a novel. Hannah and Jeff’s backyard wedding reception in Appleton was one of those magical evenings. Even now, we find ourselves daydreaming about it (and yes, maybe feeling just a little jealous).
A Celebration Close to Home
When Hannah and Jeff first reached out, they shared that they were eloping in the Cayman Islands in May of this year. Their big wedding day would be on the beach, but they still wanted to host something special back home—a chance to celebrate with their closest friends and family. Their idea was simple yet stunning: a backyard reception overlooking the Fox River, with just 60 guests and a whole lot of love.
We knew right away that this was going to be something beautiful. They brought us on for full planning/design, and together we crafted an evening that felt crisp, clean, and romantic with a coastal flair.
The Look: Coastal Calm Meets Midwest Charm
Hannah had such a clear vision—she wanted something timeless, simple, and elegant. White and taupe florals filled the tables, blending native blooms with classic white roses. Beautiful textured linens from BBJ La Tavola added depth and softness, while a carefully designed tablescape from House of Flowers in Oshkosh tied everything together with effortless style. Birch chairs circled around candlelit tables, and as dusk fell, the whole backyard glowed. It was as if the river itself was part of the décor, reflecting the light and adding to the sense of calm.
The atmosphere was laid-back but thoughtful. Guests could feel the love woven into every detail…nothing was fussy, but everything was beautiful.
A Gorgeous August Night
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was one of those warm August evenings where the air feels soft, the breeze carries across the water, and time seems to slow down. Guests sipped champagne as the sun dipped low, painting the Fox River in shades of gold.
It wasn’t loud or rushed; it was the kind of night where laughter lingers in the air, glasses clink gently, and the couple can actually breathe, smile, and soak it all in.
Dinner Under the Stars
The evening’s meal was as memorable as the setting. Catered by Zuppas Café in Neenah, the menu was nothing short of spectacular. Passed appetizers of prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, rare beef tenderloin crostini, and delicate cucumber rounds set the tone. Dinner featured beef tenderloin stuffed with roasted red peppers, spinach, and feta with a cabernet demi-glace, along with soy-glazed salmon, a stuffed chicken breast, roasted baby red potatoes, risotto, and grilled vegetables.
It was an intimate dinner party at its very best…fine dining in the comfort of home, made even more special by the people gathered around the table.
Why We’re Jealous
We’ve planned a lot of weddings, but Hannah and Jeff’s reception was a dream come true. A romantic summer evening by the river. A backyard transformed with florals and candlelight. Champagne, laughter, and sixty of the people who mattered most.
It was simple. It was intentional. It was stunning. And if we’re being honest…we’re still jealous.
It was also amazing to be a part of Hannah’s design vision—we loved the laid-back atmosphere and the way the entire evening felt effortless. Working with people who made us feel like part of the family was such a gift. These are the kinds of celebrations we adore. Micro weddings hold a special place in our hearts because they’re intimate, personal, and so incredibly meaningful. And this one? It was unforgettable.
